I am finishing my master’s degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, with a Major in Energy and Minor in Electronics, at Instituto Superior Técnico - University of Lisbon (IST). I am also a research intern in the physics research centre Group of Lasers and Plasma (IPFN/IST), where I have been developing a plasma source for CERN's AWAKE project.

As a research intern, I designed and built pulse generators to ignite long tube plasma discharges. Which was achieved by sizing and testing different high-voltage and high-frequency elements (like diodes, semiconductor switches and transformers). This gave me experience and confidence to find new engineering solutions, to solve apparently unsolvable problems. Last summer I gave a talk at a physics conference in Portugal (Física 2020), to present my research project to other colleagues in the field, which gave me the opportunity to explain complex concepts in a straightforward manner. This project has also allowed me to work with experienced national and international researchers from highly recognized research institutes (CERN-Geneve, Imperial College London). I have now begun to develop my master’s thesis on the research subject that I have been working, which I will conclude by the Summer of 2021. I am also a proud former martial-arts coach. Having initiated teaching Taekwondo students at 17 years old. I trained students from three to sixty years old, with classes with up to sixty students. This was a very enriching experience that helped me develop my leadership, teamwork and public speaking skills. I also worked as an on-land attendant for luxury cruises, where it was necessary to provide high-end level of customer experience, while acting proactively, learning fast and solving problems under stress.
